McLaren introduced a brand new 720S Spider convertibleDecember 9, 2018
The official premiere of the open version of the McLaren 720S Spider convertible was held on the eve of December 8. The cabriolet turned out to be slightly heavier than the “classic” car, however, buyers will not feel the difference due to the modified chassis and carbon fiber elements.
Already next spring, tentatively in March, fans of supercars from the British company McLaren will be able to test the new convertible, known as the McLaren 720S Spider. The cost of an open version of the McLaren 720S supercar starts at £ 237,000. It is known that the novelty will receive the old engine – a 4-liter V8 with a return of 720 hp, combined with a robotized gearbox in seven stages.
In addition to the power unit, the convertible borrowed from the coupe and its dynamic characteristics. Thus, the first hundred kilometers of such a car picks up in just 2.9 seconds, and its maximum speed with the roof unfolded reaches 341 km / h, with a slightly lower lowered – 325 km / h.
The 720S Spider folding roof was made of carbon fiber, and a panoramic roof was also provided as an option. Because of the design, among which is a complex mechanism responsible for the roof, the cabriolet became heavier than the standard coupe. The difference is about 49 kilograms. So that the client did not feel the “weight gain”, the model acquired lightweight carbon body elements and an improved chassis.
Meanwhile, the fastest hypercar McLaren Speedtail is already undergoing road tests.
