The company McLaren began to test the prototype of its first supercar with a fully electric power plant. This in an interview with the publication of Motor1 told the head of sales and marketing of the British brand Jolyon Nash.

“We have started to develop and test the prototype of an electric supercar and want to understand how much such a car can match the true ideals of our company,” Nash said.

At the same time, the top manager noted that the current technologies in the field of batteries will not allow the electric supercar to be released in the near future. Such a car can turn out to be quite powerful and very fast, but its maximum power reserve will not meet the demands of customers who “want to ride the track for at least 35 minutes without refueling.”

“If Senna supercar, for example, would be electric, then it would weigh at least 2000 kilograms. This is no longer MvLaren, “the expert stressed.

The next novelty of McLaren will be a supercar, known at the moment under the name BP23 Hyper-GT. It will be positioned as an ideological successor to the F1 model and should become the fastest road car in the history of the British brand.

Supercar will be equipped with a hybrid gasoline-electric power plant, details of which are not yet reported. According to preliminary data, the basis for it will be a four-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which is now used on the supercar 720S. Judging by the teaser, the maximum speed of the car, depicted on the electronic speedometer, will be 243 miles per hour (391 km per hour). For comparison, the maximum F1 is 389 km per hour.

As expected, McLaren BP23 will appear closer to the end of this year, and its deliveries to customers will begin next year. A total of 106 cars will be produced, each costing about $ 2.5 million.
