McLaren GT competes in drag racing with the Bentley Continental GTFebruary 5, 2020
This article discusses the race between two Grand tourers sports cars. Who will be faster, McLaren GT or Bentley Conti GT?
Grand tourers class cars are universal vehicles in the supercar segment. These are some of the most luxurious / comfortable cars on the market, and also some of the fastest – and this is their unique combination, which first became popular back in the 1930s. Today’s GT series cars are incredibly fast, ultra-chic and comfortable and cost little.
The AutoTrader team decided to compare the British McLaren GT supercar with the Bentley Continental coupe in its most powerful version of the GT in a straight race to find out which car is faster. Two luxury coupes are completely new – they rolled off the assembly line just a couple of days ago.
They use various principles to ensure a fast ride. But in both cases, the result is amazing.
Under the hood of the McLaren GT is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 612 horsepower (630 Nm), which provides acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.1 seconds. This British supercar has a rear axle drive and it is this fact that can play a “trick” with it, because with a wet track, it will be very difficult for the wheels to hook.
On the left is the new Bentley Conti GT with a 4.0 V8 engine that develops 542 hp. power and 770 Nm of torque. It is much heavier than McLaren – 2 164 kg versus 1,530 kg, but has all-wheel drive, so that it takes 3.9 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km / h.
After we have adequately declared the candidates for victory, we need to consider one more thing. This particular straight race was held on a rainy day, which gives one of the cars a slight advantage – we are talking about the Bentley Conti GT and its all-wheel drive. But is this enough to win?
