Mazda3 with a turbo engine will arrive at American dealers. The sedan and hatchback will be available with the same 250-horsepower turbocharged Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine that is used in the Mazda6 sedan, as well as the CX-5 and CX-9 crossovers.

According to earlier publications, the turbocharged engine will produce 231 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. These figures are obtained when using fuel with an octane rating of 92, but if you supply high-quality gasoline with an octane rating of 98 to the engine, the power rises to 250 hp. and 434 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through a six-speed automatic transmission to the i-Activ Mazda all-wheel drive system. Manual gearbox for turbocharged engine not available.

Pricing information has not yet been provided, but the version with a turbo engine will certainly cost more than the option with an atmospheric 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine that transmits 186 hp. and 252 Nm of torque on FWD or AWD. Mazda will also add a new 2.0-liter engine that delivers 155 hp to the engine range. and 203 Nm of torque on the front wheels only. The 2.0-liter engine will act as the base powerplant.

The turbocharged Mazda3 will be the premium version and will be equipped with a Bose audio system, a large 8.8-inch display and keyless entry. This model will also receive exclusive features such as a heated steering wheel with alternative switches, a frameless rearview mirror, and chrome trim around the start button and glove box.

At the moment, the Japanese automaker has presented only a couple of not too informative images of the new model. The 250-horsepower Mazda3 will feature larger tailpipes, 18-inch black wheels, glossy black mirror housings on the doors and TURBO badges on the trunk and engine cover. The Mazda3 turbocharged sedan gets a glossy black grille and a similar trim to the bottom of the front bumper.

Both turbocharged models can be equipped with the Premium Plus package, which adds a glossy black rear spoiler for the sedan, and the same roof spoiler and front splitter for the hatchback. The package also comes with intelligent parking brake support, an all-round camera, steering functions for the Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive front lighting, navigation and leather.

Mazda reports that naturally aspirated versions of the Mazda3 2021 model year will arrive at US dealerships next month, while turbocharged versions will appear by the end of 2020. Prices will be announced before the cars arrive at car dealerships.
