Mazda MX-5 turned into a retro roadsterJanuary 22, 2021
Japanese Mitsuoka is famous for its extraordinary cars with memorable designs. One of them is the Mitsuoka Rock Star, a Mazda MX-5 disguised as a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette. On the basis of the MX-5, another retro model was built according to a similar recipe, but already of a different brand in Spain.
The Hurtan company has been producing pseudo-classic cars since 1991. The Grand Albaycin model first appeared in 2008. It was based on the second generation Renault Clio. Now the Japanese roadster Mazda MX-5 ND was taken as a basis.
The power structure of the body is preserved here from Mazda: the original is recognizable by the shape of the doors and the windshield. Like the original Mazda, the Grand Albaycin will be available as a roadster and hardtop targa. The original exterior body panels are molded from plastic – they shape the exterior in the style of a sports car from the 30s.
There are no significant technical differences from Mazda. It also uses Skyactiv-G gasoline atmospheric engines with a volume of 1.5 (132 hp) and 2.0 liters (184 hp).
In 2021, Hurtan plans to build 30 of these machines. Pricing has not yet been announced. The company intends to enter new export markets, including Germany, Italy, France, Norway and the UAE.
