Mazda has patented a new six-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automaticFebruary 4, 2020
Mazda often patents potential developments that may not appear in mass production. Nevertheless, new developments in the transmission and engine may appear in the following models.
The web published information about two interesting new patents from Mazda. Judging by patent information, the company is working on a new six-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Unlike other patents, these two developments can become a reality. Back in March 2019, the company announced its intention to release a similar engine as part of a report to investors.
The new power unit will belong to the Skyactiv-X gasoline engine range and Skyactiv-D diesel engines. No detailed information yet. It is known that both engines will work with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Debut may take place before 2025.
In addition, during this period, Mazda may introduce new versions of soft hybrids, as well as an updated corporate identity of Kodo Mazda. The company also plans to release a new platform that supports soft and plug-in hybrids. The next generation Mazda 6 can be built on a new “truck”.
At the moment, these are just patents, but they are part of the company’s previously announced development plans.
