Mazda CX-9 will become more powerfulOctober 30, 2019
Additional standard features, more safety equipment and a higher starting price.
The 2020 Mazda CX-9 is here, and it’s even more alluring than the 2019 model SUV. It’s not a complete redesign, but Mazda has shaken a list of features to make it more competitive with other three-row crossovers. The most noticeable (possibly) of all the changes is a slight increase in torque – a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rises from 310 lb-ft of torque to 320 lb-ft. Horsepower remains the same for 250 horses. These numbers apply only when using 93-octane fuel. They drop to 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque when at 87.
Another new feature is the off-road assistance button, which replaces the traction control button. This new feature is designed to help you navigate rough terrain. Here is how Mazda describes its function: “When the diagonal wheels lose traction, the off-road traction assistant will no longer reduce engine torque and increase the braking force on the wheels without clutch. This transfers power to the wheels that are still on the ground to help the car regain traction and continue driving. ” We will be interested to see how this helps the CX-9 on a snowy Michigan winter day in the near future.
The number of standard Sport features has also increased. Now all CX-9s are equipped with heated front seats, an electric driver’s seat, rain-sensitive wipers, heated exterior mirrors and auto-high beam. In addition, Mazda has made its full i-Activsense security features standard. This includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance and other subtleties of driver assistance. Mazda also adopts the new Mazda3 keychain design for the CX-9.
Touring and Grand Touring also offer second-row captain chairs. Previously, Mazda only offered bench-style seats for the CX-9, so this addition could be a big incentive for some people in this segment. The chairs have armrests, and the absence of a central flap means that Mazda had to redo the design of the armrest stand on the back. In the CX-9, equipped with chairs, cup holders and USB ports are now integrated into the back of the front center console. If you choose the captain’s chairs in Grand Touring or Signature trim levels, heated seats.
Prices do increase the fair amount for the 2020 CX-9. The base price for Sport front-wheel drive is currently priced at $ 34,835, including the destination, which is $ 1,510 more than last year. However, the top of the range has become more expensive at just $ 750, since Signature starts at $ 47,160. Another reason for the price hike is Mazda’s new 30,000-year prepaid two-year service plan, which it implements with the CX-9. Mazda says service costs are now included in the purchase price. Look for the 2020 Mazda CX-9s to enter dealerships sometime this fall.
