Mazda 6 may lose diesel engineJuly 26, 2020
At this stage, such a modification of the car is under development, but a lot says that it will not go on sale.
Not so long ago, the diesel version of the Mazda CX-5 crossover reached the United States, but it did not last long there. After that, information appeared several times that the Skyactiv-D engine would appear on the Mazda 6. Recall that such a motor has a working volume of 2.2 liters and a power of 168 hp. at 390 Nm of torque. However, Mazda officials cannot give an exact answer even about the very fact of the appearance of such a motor on the Mazda 6 model, not to mention the timing.
The decision to abandon the diesel version in the business sedan may be prompted by data on such a modification in the CX-5 crossover – such a car turned out to be quite a bit more efficient and at the same time much slower than its gasoline versions. Most likely, now the question is in research regarding fuel economy in the diesel version – if it is possible to make a breakthrough in this area, then the decision may be positive.
At the moment, the Mazda 6 is sold in the US with a four-cylinder engine, which does not cause complaints from its owners.
Therefore, if a diesel version does appear, it is far from a fact that demand for it will be high.
