Mattia Binotto: Qualification was not perfect

Ferrari drivers were the third and fourth in the qualification in Shanghai – and were unhappy with the results.

Sebastian Vettel (3rd): “I could drive a little better, but it still would not be enough to get ahead of Mercedes in the fight for the pole. I am not quite satisfied with the results of the session, although it could have ended worse. We started off very well, but our rivals are faster on the same lap.

However, in the race the car should work well, and I hope that we will demonstrate it on each of the 56 laps. There is a long race ahead, I’m waiting for a tight fight. The strategy will play an important role – tomorrow you need to make only the right decisions. Not sure that everyone understands how many factors need to be considered. All drivers from the leading group will start on Medium tires – see if this is the right choice. Anything can happen. ”

Charles Leclaire (4th): “I am displeased with myself. I made a mistake on the last lap – this should not be. But for the rest, there are several positive moments. In training, I had big problems with the settings, I lacked confidence in the car and in the piloting. But before qualifying, we changed something, so I was able to drive faster and achieve the desired lap time. This is good, but it is a pity that we could not show what the machine is capable of. We knew that the rivals would be competitive – this has been the case since the first session.

The race will be a little more difficult than we expected, because I did not drive a single long series of circles either yesterday or in the third training session because of the red flags, so I don’t know what to expect. It will not be easy, but I will do everything that depends on me. We expect rivals to be very strong. ”

Mattia Binotto, team leader: “Imperfect qualification, and this can play an important role in such a tight fight in the championship. However, in such a highly professional sport one should not be surprised when in one race someone can be in front, and in the next – behind. In Bahrain, we dearly got the knowledge that the race is impossible to win on Saturday. Tomorrow we will face a tense struggle, and this will continue until the end of the season. ”
