Maserati will stop producing compact models
June 14, 2019The premium brand from Italy told about their plans for the near future: the brand intends to refuse to release cars whose dimensions will be smaller than the current versions of Ghibli and Levante.
The Italian company Maserati made a strong-willed decision, declaring its refusal to manufacture compact cars. On such a decisive step premium brand went in order not to be like other brands. The head of Maserati, Harald Wester, spoke about this new concept in an interview with Autocar. According to him, Maserati was and remains a manufacturer of luxury cars, while targeting smaller models makes the brand look like brands from the mass segment.
Another reason is pricing. Compact cars are usually cheaper.
After this statement, autoexperts seriously thought about the fate of the previously announced compact cross. Will this model affect the new development program? Or mister Vester meant absolutely other compact cars which were not planned earlier. Recall, the company Maserati promised to bring to the Geneva Motor Show 2020 coupe-shaped crossover Alfieri. Sales of this SUV will start in the years 2021-2022.
