Mario Isola: Alonso’s experience has brought us great benefitsApril 4, 2019
For Pirelli, the tests in Bahrain had a double meaning: they provided the teams with tires that they ordered for their tests, and also worked on their program, testing prototypes of tires for 2020. This was done by Daniel Quyat in Toro Rosso, as well as Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso in McLaren.
Mario Isola, Head of the Auto Racing Unit: “Ultimately, we were able to complete the work on testing prototype tires for 2020, despite the loss of several hours on the first day due to rain.
Many thanks to all the pilots who took part in our tests: especially Fernando Alonso, whose experience once again brought us great benefits. We have already begun to analyze the collected data, and in the coming days and weeks we will carefully study these figures to determine the direction in which we have to move next season, in the last year of using 13-inch tires.
As for the rest of the tests, each team worked on its own program, using the current tires that they chose in advance. Of course, none of them chose rain tires, but still the tests in these two days turned out to be productive. Our congratulations to Mick Schumacher for the debut in Formula 1: like everyone else, we were impressed by what he achieved in his first performance. ”
