Mario Isola about choosing tires at the Grand Prix of BelgiumAugust 27, 2019
For the upcoming stage in the Spa, Pirelli will bring three of the toughest compounds from C1, C2 and C3. The head of the auto racing division of the Italian company Mario Isola commented on this choice of rubber.
Mario Isola: “The Spa has an amazing race track, but here the tires are under one of the most serious loads of the season. As a result, we will bring to the race the three toughest compositions – this choice is slightly different from last year, which should help to attack as much as possible on each segment and minimize the need for wear control. For example, the choice of rigid compositions for the stage at Silverstone led to a very intense struggle, and Lewis Hamilton showed the best lap at the very end of the race on a worn-out composition.
We know a lot about the track, including thanks to the experience gained during the race “24 hours Spa”. Last month, the race was stopped for several hours due to rain. This fact, as well as last year’s qualification of the Grand prix of Belgium, emphasize the possibility of changeable weather.
“There is a high probability of overtaking on the Belgian track, so under suitable conditions in the race an aggressive strategy can work.”
