Mahindra to Bring Formula E to India for Electric Vehicle AdvertisingNovember 30, 2020
The first race will take place in India no earlier than the end of 2022
Mahindra is working with the leadership of the Formula E Championship to host the race in India. Co-founder of the series Alberto Longo told our colleagues from Motorsport.com about this during the pre-season tests.
At the same time, Longo noted that it will most likely be impossible to do this either in the next season or in the 2021-2022 season. So the first race in India will take place no earlier than the eighth season, which will begin at the end of 2022 and will fall predominantly in 2023.
Mahindra is one of ten car brands already present in Formula E. However, only she and Nissan do not have a home stage in the championship calendar. Germans Porsche, Audi, BMW and Mercedes have a race in Berlin, DS has a stage in Paris, Jaguar can invite fans for races in London and even Venturi has a native ePrix in Monaco.
Mahindra has confirmed its desire to bring Formula E to India. The team expressed confidence in the high interest of the residents of their home country in both electric cars and electric car racing.
Due to the coronavirus, the next Formula E season will not start at the end of this year, but as an exception, it will take place in 2021 alone. But this will be the first season of Formula E in the new world championship status. Mahindra will feature Alexander Sims and Alex Lynn. The Indian team has been using ZF engines in their cars since last season.
