Luxury electric SUV Mercedes-Maybach EQS coming in 2024July 22, 2021
The German automaker Mercedes is preparing several platforms for electric vehicles only.
Mercedes-Benz is accelerating its electrification plans and now wants 50% of the automaker’s output to be hybrid or all-electric by 2025, rather than 25% as previously planned. During a live broadcast, several company executives laid out these plans, including confirming previously unannounced models.
Britta Seeger, responsible for marketing and sales for Mercedes-Benz, confirmed during the broadcast that the EQE and EQS SUVs will debut next year. In addition, the luxury Mercedes-Maybach EQS is on its way.
Seeger also confirms that an all-electric G-Class will arrive in 2024. According to preliminary information, the concept model may debut in early September at the IAA in Munich. There are no details about the new product yet. We don’t know if this is just an electrified version of an existing SUV or a product with unique styling and proportions.
Mercedes’ strategy for electric vehicles is to have an all-electric vehicle in every segment it occupies by 2022. From 2025, every new product released will be electric only. This will include the AMG division.
“These upcoming AMGs will also push the boundaries in terms of efficiency and aerodynamics,” – Seeger said.
To support these vehicles, Mercedes is developing several EV-only platforms. MMA for compact products will appear in 2024. Later, the company will introduce MB.EA for medium and large passenger cars. There will also be a dedicated platform for high-performance AMG electric models. Finally, VAN.EA will target commercial models.
To make these models possible, Mercedes needs a lot of batteries. The company intends to set up eight cell manufacturing plants in partnership with other companies around the world. SilaNano is also working on a new generation of silicon-carbon composite composite batteries.
