Lotus is thinking about releasing an affordable sports carNovember 9, 2019
The company is talking about returning to the lineup of an affordable Elan sports car. This will be a new model that will try to draw a portion of customers from the Porsche 718 Boxster.
Back in 2010, Lotus demonstrated the concept of an inexpensive sports car called Elan. At that time, the brand belonged to the Malaysian investment holding DRB-Hicom. Serial production was planned to begin in 2013. Although a number of financial failures prevented these plans. After selling the brand to the Chinese concern Geely, the company again thought about releasing a new model.
The Chinese owners of Lotus are considering the real possibility of launching production of the Elan model in the near future. The concept itself was presented at the Paris Motor Show. Then it was assumed that the model will be equipped with a petrol 4.0-liter V6 turbo engine, capable of developing up to 450 horsepower. In addition, the manufacturer wanted to release a hybrid version, but the concept remained a concept.
If the company decides to release a new product, it will become one line with the Porsche 718 Boxster and BMW Z4 models. The sports car will be built on a new platform, which will debut on the new Exige and Evora models of future generations.
