Polaris Slingshot updated, received a new engine and gearbox
Polaris introduced the three-wheeled Slingshot 2020 model year, which is gaining a hundred in less than five seconds. The novelty received a two-liter “aspirated” with a capacity of 180 or 203 horsepower, but the company keeps the developer of this unit secret. As CNET found out, the motor has something to do with Mercedes-AMG.
With the update, Slingshot not only changed outwardly, but also became almost 40 kilograms lighter – its weight is 748 kilograms. In addition, he received a power plant, which now works not only with the “mechanics”, but also with automatic transmission. The two-liter naturally aspirated engine is available in two boost options: 180 and 203 horsepower. Polaris claims that the more powerful version, called the Slingshot R, accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in 4.9 seconds. The maximum speed is 200 kilometers per hour.
Previously, the Polaris Slingshot was equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder Ecotec engine from General Motors, which was 30 horsepower weaker than the new engine.
In general, Slingshot has changed by almost 70 percent. In addition to the appearance of a two-liter unit and an “automatic”, in the 2020 model year tricycle, the steering, brake system, suspension and interior were finalized. New seats were installed, there was an infotainment system with a seven-inch touch screen, as well as a rear view camera.
Prices for the 2020 Polaris Slingshot SL start at $ 26,499, and the Slingshot R version costs between $ 30,999 for the mechanic version and $ 32,699 for the automatic version.
