Listen to how the electric Maserati will soundJanuary 23, 2020
The company began testing a new power plant
Maserati has announced the start of a testing phase for a new, all-electric powerplant. The first battery models of the Italian brand will be the next generation GranTurismo and GranCabrio. The company also developed sound for electric cars.
The innovative propulsion system, as Maserati calls it, was developed by the forces of the Innovation Lab’s modern technical center in Modern. There, during the experimental phase, a unique soundtrack was created for future Maserati electric vehicles – the special sound is the hallmark of cars with internal combustion engines, and the company intends to continue the tradition even after switching to electric traction.
Ahead are planned natural tests of the power plant both on public roads and on racing tracks. The first electric Maserati are already known – they will be GranTurismo and GranCabrio. Production of previous-generation sports cars at the Turin plant ceased last November; the enterprise is closed for reconstruction. New generation sports cars will debut in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
This year, Maserati will show “a completely new sports car,” but it’s not yet clear what kind of car it will be.
Indeed, most recently, the company brought to the test “mule” with mid-engine layout. In its bowels there is a certain new engine, developed by the forces of the same Innovation Lab. Probably, the unit will replace the “eight” Ferrari. Now they are put, for example, on the top Levante. However, after a year or two, Ferrari will stop shipping engines, as the profitability of this business has declined.
