Lincoln can abandon the Continental sedanMarch 15, 2018
The flagship four-door sedan Lincoln Continental of premium American brand will not have a successor.
According to the publication of the Ford Authority, referring to sources familiar with the plans of Ford (owns the Lincoln brand), after the completion of the life cycle, Continental will leave the conveyor belt. The insiders did not give the reasons for this decision.
Recall, Continental revived in 2016. According to Ford Authority, to return the model to the market, Ford spent about one billion dollars. It is possible that the flagship sedan will refuse because of unsatisfactory sales figures. Ford has repeatedly stated about the shift in consumer interest in the direction of crossovers and SUVs – it is on such models that the company stakes in the future.
In the States last year, 12,012 Lincoln Continental cars were sold. For comparison, the Cadillac XTS in 2017 in the US acquired 16,275 owners, the sales volume of the BMW 5 Series was 40,658, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class – 49,473.
Continental is built on the upgraded version of the platform from Ford Fusion / Mondeo. In the US market, the sedan is available with gasoline twin-turbo V6 3.0 (405 hp) and V6 2.7 (335 hp) petrol V6 3.7 (305 hp). All engines are combined with a six-speed automatic transmission, the drive is front or full. The price of the Continental 2018 model year starts at $ 45,160 (excluding taxes and shipping).
Sedans are collected in Michigan, from there cars are also delivered to Canada and China. By the way, in China for Lincoln Continental there is a gasoline turbo engine 2.0, which produces 261 hp.
