Lexus RZ 450e or new premium electric crossoverAugust 14, 2020
The Japanese company has registered the Lexus RZ 450e trade name, which is rumored to be reserved for the new electric crossover. The Lexus RZ 450e name is registered in the USA, Europe and Australia.
Automakers often register various trademarks just in order to have the right to use them in the future, only they had, but apparently, this time, the application from Lexus has a good chance of “seeing the light”. The Japanese luxury car manufacturer has registered the RZ 450e trademark in the United States, Europe and Australia, first discovered by the Lexus Enthusiast community.
The new trade name follows the current model designation style used by the automaker. It is possible that Lexus is already working hard on a new car that will receive an electric motor.
Lexus began production of electric vehicles last November with the UX 300e crossover, which is targeted at China, Japan and Europe, and by 2025, the automaker plans to offer all models with an electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The company also anticipated this future with the LF-30 concept (pictured). presented last year. It is a concept with “sharp” edges, gull wing doors, four electric motors in the wheels and an unusual design. But it was just a concept that we won’t see anytime soon.
What Lexus plans to do with the new RZ branding is not complete speculation. As noted by the same Lexus Enthusiast, Lexus already uses the letter R in the designation of some of its models – the RC coupe and the RX crossover. The “e” at the end of the 450e designation means it will have an electric motor. The only unknown character in the name is the letter “Z”. The LC and RC in the current Lexus lineup are coupes, while the ES, LS and IS are sedans. UX, EX and GX are crossovers. So what exactly is RZ? Lexus could use it to add new body styles to its lineup, such as a crossover coupe.
Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote that details about the Lexus UX 300e electric cross for Europe became known. Lexus UX 300e was shown in November last year. But the car has not yet appeared on sale even in the main markets – in Europe and China. Today, August 11, Lexus shared details regarding the European variant of the UX 300e.
