Lexus RX receives IIHS Top Safety Pick AwardNovember 9, 2019
This is the fourth IIHS safety award for the brand in 2019, following the Top Safety Pick + award for ES, UX and NX.
The recently updated 2018-2019 Lexus RX crossover model year received the Top Safety Pick award from IIHS. And, like many vehicles that are currently meeting the increasingly stringent requirements of the Institute for Road Safety, there is one caveat: the award applies only to versions equipped with certain headlights.
This figure also served as the reason that the RX almost missed the highest possible mark of the Top Safety Pick +. IIHS rated the base headlights and one of the premium headlight options — both static LED projectors — as acceptable, but he gave a poor rating to the available curve-adaptive LED headlights, stating that they created too much glare.
On the other hand, the RX passed crash tests, receiving good marks in all areas. IIHS says it conducted the first small crash test of a luxury crossover on the passenger side, noting that Lexus has made changes to the design of the bumper and front of the body to improve passenger protection in the front seats. He also praised the RX front wheel collision avoidance system, which avoided collisions when testing on the track at 20 and 40 km / h.
Like the RX350, the 450h hybrid version received an easy upgrade, including the latest Lexus Safety System +. the complex includes new features such as daytime detection of cyclists and pedestrian detection in low light, an adaptive cruise control is added to the existing warning before a collision.
