At the Detroit Auto Show, Lexus unveiled an updated top-end coupe RC F, as well as a racing version of the model.
Lexus RC Coupe was updated in the summer of 2018, its public premiere was held at the Paris Motor Show in October last year. Now it’s the turn of the top version of RC F. The coupe received the same changes in appearance as the base model (that is, it became more like the flagship LC model), but the top-end version was also modified with the “technique”.
Engine left the same – five-liter naturally aspirated V8. However, now he has a new intake manifold, because of which the recoil has increased from 473 to 479 hp, torque – from 527 to 536 Nm. True, these are indicators for cars in the United States and Japan, while in Europe there is a new standard for measuring the economy of WLTP, so the engine power in the Old World is limited to 457 hp. (520 Nm). The engine is combined with an eight-speed “automatic”, the gear ratio changed from 2.93 to 3.13.
Rear wheel drive coupe has become easier: the Lexus RC F has hollow drive shafts, a smaller air conditioning compressor and aluminum brackets instead of steel brackets. By the way, the suspension was reconfigured: more rigid bushings are now installed at the back.
In Detroit, also brought the racing special version of the model – Track Edition. A team that participates in Super GT and IMSA competitions has contributed to its creation. Under the hood, this car has the same engine as the usual Lexus RC F coupe, but the weight of the car is even smaller, which affects the aerodynamics. Compared with the previous version (yes, for some reason in the Lexus they “push” it from this option), the racing coupe is 72-81 kg lighter. This was achieved by including Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, lightweight 19-inch BBS wheels (borrowed from the RC F GT3 racing car), as well as hood, roof, rear booster amplifier, front bumper panels made of carbon-fiber plastic and wing on the trunk lid. Plus, the silencer and exhaust pipes are made of titanium.
Lexus RC F Track Edition can accelerate from zero to hundreds of km / h in 3.96 seconds. It should be noted that the current Lexus RC F, which is sold including in Russia, requires 4.5 seconds.
For the racing version, the exclusive exterior color of the Nebula Matte Gray (gray) is provided, or, alternatively, Ultra White (white). In the racing novelty, the interior is red, the seats are finished in Alcantara.
The release of the updated coupe RC F and RC F Track Edition starts in March 2019. On the US market, the model in all versions will be released in the second quarter of this year. Sales of the entire RC family in America last year amounted to 3,358 cars, which is 54.4% less than a year earlier.
