Latifi will replace Kubica in the first training session in Mexico CityOctober 21, 2019
Nicholas Latifi, Williams backup pilot, will replace Robert Kubica at the wheel of the FW42 for Friday’s first training session in Mexico City. It is curious that among the racers of this team, only he has experience in piloting a Formula 1 car at the Rodriguez Brothers circuit.
Nicholas Latifi: “I am very happy to be back in Mexico City – it feels like a lot of time has passed since Spa, when I worked on the track the previous time. Last year, I already had the opportunity to hold my first Friday training session in Mexico City, so I know what to expect.
This is a rather unique track, since it is located high above sea level, this affects the level of adhesion with asphalt, which complicates the task. As always, the goal remains the same: we must have a good session, avoiding mistakes, and help the team prepare for the second training session. ”
For the 24-year-old Canadian, one stage before the end of the Formula 2 season, taking the 2nd line of the individual standings, this will be the fourth training session at the wheel of Williams this year, but the team also plans that he will pilot George Russell’s FW42 in Austin on Friday . After this, Latifi will again drive a car in Brazil, but it has not yet been decided which of the main racers he will replace.
