Large electric SUV will be among Nissan modelsJuly 28, 2020
More recently, the Japanese automaker unveiled its new electric crossover, the Nissan Ariya, which will begin home sales in mid-2021. The brand is not going to stop there: a new “green” SUV is waiting for its turn.
A new large SUV may appear in the lineup of battery-powered Nissan cars, which will be digging the Leaf and Ariya electric cars already available to the Japanese. The launch of new items is scheduled for the end of next year.
The new electric car will be based on the modern CMF-EV platform, which has already been tested on the new Ariya electric crossover. Recall that this architecture was developed specifically for electric cars.
As for the segment that the large SUV will master, it is worth recalling the words of Helen Perry, head of the electric vehicles division of Nissan Europe. She noted that the C-SUV and D-SUV segments are expected to grow rapidly over the next three years. So it is logical that Nissan plans to release new models specifically for these promising niches. In general, Nissan intends to electrify 50 percent of its model range by 2023.
According to forecasts of auto experts, the electric novelty will boast a power reserve of about 500 kilometers. This is the maximum threshold for the Nissan Ariya.
In the meantime, Volkswagen is working on an affordable compact electric car. The battery cityikar will be known as ID.1. The five-door hatchback built on the MEB platform will take the place of the VW e-Up! The emergence of new items will have to wait a few more years.
