Lando Norris: I stood the pressure in the last lapsSeptember 23, 2019
Lando Norris finished seventh in Singapore, thanks to six points earned, he climbed to 12th place in the individual standings, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. Carlos Sainz after a collision with Nico Hulkenberg in the first round finished the race 12th.
Lando Norris (7th): “A good race in which I managed to earn points. I do not think that I could achieve more. We did everything we could at the start, but then I was just restrained by the rivals who were driving ahead – everyone tried to save tire resources.
A safety car drove out several times — sometimes it helped, sometimes — it interfered, allowing Hulkenberg and Gasley to approach me on softer tires. Their tires were fresher – I spent the last laps under serious pressure. I had to attack – it was fun, because most of the race we drove slowly.
It is a pity that at the beginning of the race, Carlos’s car was hit by Hulkenberg. If not for this, I suppose we would both earn points. Many thanks to the team and everyone at the base for their hard work. ”
Carlos Sainz (12th): “I am disappointed with the results of the weekend. The second time in a row I did not earn points in the race, in which I could achieve a good result.
The start went as I wanted – I was the seventh and attacked the Red Bull in front. However, in the fifth turn, a Renault car hit me from behind. The blow led to a puncture, serious damage to the car and a long pit stop, after which I lost the circle. It’s a pity, because there was a chance to finish with the seventh and two cars to earn points.
However, I did not give up and fought to the end. I feel physically and psychologically strong behind the wheel – I’m sure we will win back in Russia. This race must be left in the past and focus on the next weekend. “
Andreas Seidl, team leader: “What a race! It’s nice to leave Singapore, earning more points than our main rivals in the Cup of designers. Unfortunately, for Carlos, the race actually ended a few turns after the start.
Lando flew well, finishing at the position that was most possible for us. He withstood the enormous pressure in the last laps when, after a safety car, riders on more recent tires were right behind him.
It is difficult to work in conditions of such heat, but the whole team in the boxes and on the pit wall did an excellent job. We received effective news that allowed us to demonstrate high speed this weekend. We are optimistic about the continuation. The next stop is in Sochi. ”
