Land Rover is developing a low-cost modelAugust 13, 2018
In the next three years, the company Jaguar Land Rover will introduce three completely new models, including SUV entry-level and passenger Road Rover.
JLR executives told about the plans to expand the model line at a recent presentation for investors: three new models will join the thirteen existing models in the coming years. One of them will be a kind of Land Rover entry level – the ideological successor to the crossover Freelander (discontinued in 2014), which will be smaller and cheaper than the most affordable model at the moment, Discovery Sport. Of course, do not expect that the new Land Rover will cost as much as the Renault Duster, but nevertheless it should be a mass model, available to a wide range of consumers around the world.
On the passenger model Road Rover we told last fall. The basis for this unusual for Land Rover novelties, most likely, will lay the new modular platform MLA (Modular Longitudinal Platform), originally envisaging the use of hybrid and fully electric power plants. The Road Rover will be an expensive and comfortable car that can compete in comfort with the Mercedes S-Class, but it will have a body wagon – the serial S-class never had it.
Also, the carrier of the MLA platform can become completely new Land Rover Defender, which, according to rumors, will include a version with a pickup truck that will compete with Mercedes X-class.
As reported by Automotive News, in the last quarter JLR suffered losses for the first time in three years, which are associated with breccis and a drop in demand for diesel vehicles in Europe. The expansion of the model line should make the British company more stable and profitable.
