Land Rover Chef: Thinking about the new Defender since the 1990sSeptember 10, 2019
Land Rover introduced a new generation Defender SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Land Rover chief designer Andy Will told AutoTimesNews that the company had been thinking about the successor to the legendary model for almost 30 years.
“Jaguar Land Rover designers have been thinking about the design of the new Defender since the 1990s. We had a lot of idea, but in the end, there were two prototypes left, two ways. We have chosen one of them. I think that the novelty will live on the conveyor less than its predecessor (70 years – approx.ed.). But he has enormous potential, ”Andy Will admitted.
The novelty, after a change in replenishment, lost its frame and manual transmission. The new Defender got six trim levels to choose from. The SUV will be on sale in four versions: one gasoline, hybrid and two diesel. Power – from 200 to 400 horsepower. All motors are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission ZF and a two-stage transfer case.
In the UK, prices for the new Defender will start from 45,240 pounds to 78,800 pounds for the most equipped long-wheelbase version. In Russia, pricing will be different, but it is already known that Defender will be so much cheaper than Discovery.
