Lamborghini shows Sian cooling system in actionJuly 21, 2020
The recently presented hypercar, in addition to supercapacitors, is also equipped with an innovative cooling system.
Not so long ago, the Italian company Lamborghini introduced the new Lamborghini Sian hypercar. And a few days ago, the manufacturer released a video showing the innovative cooling system for the V12 engine of this model, called the Smart Material System. It should be noted that the system has no electronic control.
At first glance, the new Smart Material System is very easy to implement – the dampers open automatically when the engine reaches a certain temperature. However, this effect is achieved with the help of an unusual material, the name of which is kept secret. This is because the dampers are driven by springs of shape memory material. In other words, when the engine is not warmed up, the springs are compressed, but as soon as it reaches a certain temperature, they take a different shape and the dampers open.
This solution allowed Lamborghini engineers to further reduce the weight of the hypercar, as well as get rid of a number of electrical circuits and moving parts. Earlier, AutoTimesNews wrote that Lamborghini presented a new roadster and Sian coupe. The cars are driven by an atmospheric engine with a volume of 6.5 liters, which is paired with a 48-volt starter-generator, and a supercapacitor is used as a battery, which can instantly release the stored energy and be fully charged using a recuperation system.
