Last year, the Italian company Lamborghini, part of the German concern Volkswagen, sold 5,750 cars worldwide, which is 51% more than in 2017, and its turnover grew by 40% and reached 1.42 billion euros. This is an absolute record for the 55-year history of the company, which for the last three decades of the last century has been balancing on the verge of and beyond bankruptcy. The Germans, who bought Lamborghini in 1998, stabilized its financial situation, but it took the Italians twenty years to produce a truly successful model.
The Urus sports crossover entered the world market only in the middle of 2018, but managed to give a strong impetus to the development of the company, despite skepticism and criticism from orthodox brand fans – they say, no, this is not a Lamborghini, but a converted Porsche Cayenne … Indeed, at the heart the supercross is the MLB Evo, the all-Volkswagen platform, and the 650-horsepower engine, even though Lamborghini’s mechanics have been seriously reworked, is also basically German, but the majority of customers are not embarrassed – Urus diverges excellently.
In the future, global sales of Lamborghini should reach 10,000 cars a year, and the Urus will be the locomotive to achieve this goal, while mid-engined sports cars will play an image role and focus on the Italian brand the attention of automotive enthusiasts and collectors. In an interview with Western media, Stefano Domenicali, head of Lamborghini, repeatedly stressed that until recently the company would hold on to the atmospheric engines that are placed on Huracan and Aventador, but they will have to build a hybrid superstructure to achieve future environmental standards. As for clean electric cars, Domenicali has repeatedly stressed that there will be no such models for Lamborghini in the foreseeable future.
But the fourth model in the line of Lamborghini still appears – it is a kind of model class GT with a landing formula 2 + 2, which in theory should be the second most popular after Urus. In 2008, Lamborghini introduced the 4-seater concept Estoque, but it did not go into the series, and now it has been decided to return to this project, although it is not even known on which platform it will be made.
In addition, the Lamborghini will occasionally delight the public with exclusive piece models, such as the Egoista single-seater sports car or the Aventador J spider, which will go to selected customers only.
