Kwid-2020: Renault is trying to intrigue, but in the meantime the interior has already been revealed

Inside, a cheap hatchback of the French brand has not changed so dramatically as outside. But there are still new things. But the motor range of the model, according to preliminary data, is the same.

A few days ago, the exterior of the restyled hatch Renault Kwid, designed for the Indian market, was revealed on the Web. The appearance was made in the style of an electric version available only in China, which received its own name K-ZE. The Indian hatch now also has two-tier head optics, the same bumpers and taillights. The “Indian” radiator grill is original.

The brand itself pretends that there are no spy photos: the day before, the local Renault division distributed only a couple of teasers of the model. However, the paparazzi already managed to look into the interior of the updated Quid, the pictures were published by the Rushlane edition.

Inside, the hatchback also borrowed a lot from the Renault K-ZE electric car. Compared with the pre-reform Quid, the new thing is a multimedia system with an 8-inch touchscreen instead of a 7-inch one, and the steering wheel and central airflow deflectors have also been replaced. On the passenger side, there is no shelf on the front panel – now only the glove compartment. Orange accents are the prerogative of the Climber special version, which the former Renault Kwid also has. The hatchback with a simple Easy-R robotic gearbox with one clutch is captured on the frames: the washer responsible for switching the modes moved from the center console to the tunnel between the seats. But the dashboard of freshened Kwid has its own, not the same as that of K-ZE. It is also new – most likely, the hatch dashboard came from the Renault Triber soplatform compact van (both models are built on the CMF-A platform).

Indian media reported that the engines were not touched: in India, the hatch is available with gasoline three-cylinder aspirated 0.8 SCe and 1.0 SCe with 54 and 68 hp. respectively. Both work in tandem with a five-speed manual gearbox, the Easy-R box is intended only for a liter engine. Four-wheel drive for Kwid is not provided.

The premiere of the restyled model will be held in India in the near future. Prices are unlikely to rise much, as the previous Kwid is losing customers: according to the results of 2018, sales fell by 28% to 66,815 units, this year the hatch is also in the red. The pre-reform “five-door” costs from 276,000 rupees.

After the updated Renault Kwid has mastered the Indian market, it will reach South Africa and the countries of South America. In China, they do not plan to sell gas hatchbacks – only the “green” option. Quid Russia does not shine in any form.

Meanwhile, in India, Kwid is about to have a new competitor – Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch a similar-style S-Presso hatch.
