Kia’s new electric crossover captured on videoJanuary 18, 2021
Kia recently unveiled its all-new goal and strategy for the future that will lead the South Korean automaker into a new era of electrified vehicles, and speaking of electric vehicles, we noticed Kia catching a glimpse of its innovation in a video during the announcement of the new strategy.
We previously wrote that the South Korean automaker announced its newest EV as part of a global presentation of its new corporate identity, which includes both a name change and a new slogan: Movement That Inspires. Kia says it will focus on a wider variety of transportation solutions, including electric vehicles, mobility services, and specialized vehicles.
Moreover, the new spirit of the brand will be accompanied by some changes in the corporate design of the brand, which will first appear on the aforementioned electric vehicle. Kia will use a simple naming scheme for its EV1 to EV9 electric vehicles. It’s unclear what the first car will be named, but the company showed us a teaser image of nine different vehicles, including two close-ups – a mid-size crossover and a small hatchback. We assume that one of these vehicles will be presented in February.
Looking at the footage of the commercial, we see a new Kia logo placed on the hood of a mysterious car that could be CV, the first Kia model to use the new E-GMP platform. If you take a closer look at the image, you can see that the radiator grille has the same lines as on the Imagine by Kia concept car, but smoothed out.
The production electric crossover should have at least the same characteristics as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, that is, a range of up to 550 km, 313 horsepower and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.2 seconds. Compared to the Ioniq 5, the Kia crossover will have a “charged” version, which was previously mentioned by the head of research and development, who said that they have set a goal to reach a top speed of 260 km / h and accelerate to 100 km / h in less than 3.5 seconds.
