KIA Picanto may turn into an electric carSeptember 23, 2019
The electrified Picanto will be intended for European motorists, where due to toughened environmental standards there is an increase in the number of environmentally friendly cars.
KIA is already selling e-Soul and e-Niro in Europe, but is clearly not going to stop there. Next in line is the “green” KIC Picanto sitikar, which is currently offered for purchase with a 67-liter gasoline engine. and manual transmission as a transmission. The Automotive News portal spoke about the possible appearance of an electric version of this model, citing Emilio Herrera, a top manager at the European division of the Korean company. There is no talk of specific dates yet, as the brand will have to find a solution to an important problem regarding pricing. Today KIA Picanto is considered the most affordable model of the brand, however, if it goes into the category of electric cars, you will have to forget about this advantage.
Electric cars are more expensive than cars with traditional ICEs. So, for comparison, for the current Picanto in Germany you will have to pay at least 10 290 euros, but for the same e-Niro they ask already from 35 290 euros.
According to Emilio Herrera, an electric KIA Picanto could cost about 20,000 euros. In order for the novelty to be in demand, this price must be “cheapened” to 16-17,000 euros. The question of how to do this, and remains to be decided before the launch of the electric Picanto.
We will remind, earlier it became known that the American company Ford plans to release eight models of electric cars on the European market. So, already this year, Europeans will be offered electric versions of Kuga, Puma and Mondeo.
