Kia Optima will definitely be called differentlyDecember 21, 2019
There is new evidence that Kia Motors America continues to implement plans to rename one of the most iconic cars sold in the US – Kia Optima.
The engines driving the Kia K5 (we probably should get used to its new name now) will be 1.6T, and the Kia K5 GT will use a 2.5T motor. Now we have received confirmation that the all-wheel drive will be available only for 1.6T, and not for 2.5T, this may be bad news for some people, but this is a great addition to the Kia K5 line.
It also became known that the Kia K5 will come to the US market in the GT-Line version with a package of options different from the one that was used in the past. One thing that will please many people is that Kia also plans to make AWD available for some of its GT-Line models, offering more and more choices for all consumers.
The 2.5-liter T-GDi unit is able to accelerate a car from 0 to 100 km / h in about 6.6 seconds. The powerful and efficient engine is equipped with a new generation of integrated temperature control system Kia, which maintains ideal operating temperatures thanks to the intelligent cooling system of the cylinder block.
In addition, a new dual-injection system is installed in the engine, which switches between MPI at low speeds, GDI at higher speeds and a combination of the two in the middle range, depending on operating conditions.
All power plants come standard with a six-speed or eight-speed automatic transmission, and 2.5-liter T-GDi engines are also available with the new Kia dual-clutch eight-speed gearbox (8DCT).
Regarding the AWD option, Kia did not confirm whether it will be available with these engines, as their press release included such an inscription that they would be available “with specific engines depending on the market”.
