Kia joins Ceed family with hybrid versionsJuly 10, 2020
Hatchbacks and Kia Ceed station wagons received moderately hybrid units.
South Korean company Kia has updated the Ceed lineup. Now hatchbacks and station wagons are equipped with MHEV moderately hybrid power plants based on the 1.6-liter turbocharged CRDi Smartstream diesel engine.
In the new unit, the internal combustion engine is paired with the simplest starter-generator with a belt drive from the crankshaft, the power of which is provided by a small tiny lithium-polymer battery located in the niche of the spare wheel.
According to experts, the principle of operation does not differ from other similar installations. The electrical component improves dynamic performance when speeding, and also activates the engine after it has been disabled by start / stop technology.
It is noted that the new system is equipped not only with a 7-band 7DCT robotic gearbox, but also works in conjunction with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The new diesel-electric installation will be offered in two versions with different capacities. In the first case, the hybrid Kia Ceed will produce 115 hp. and 280 nm of torque, and in the second version, the output will be 136 hp. and 320 Nm. The fuel consumption of the car will be 3.7-4.4 liters per 100 kilometers.
