KIA is preparing a new electric citycarMay 24, 2020
Personal transportation in urban areas remains an interesting topic for car manufacturers. Citroen recently completed its response as Ami. KIA appreciated the concept and is preparing something similar.
On foot, by public transport, by bike, on a scooter, or on a Segway: in city blocks you can move in different ways. In a modern city, an “less and more” car is suitable for this list. City authorities and governments want to keep cars with an internal combustion engine out of the city center, and often they simply do not have enough space. Solution: A very small electric car, such as the recently introduced Citroen Ami: an inexpensive, compact and environmentally friendly vehicle that is not exposed to the elements or other people.
The extremely fallen popularity of public transport due to the coronavirus is now an important reason for many to drive again. According to Emilio Herrera, head of KIA Europe, the reason the company followed in the footsteps of the French and came up with “their Ami” is because Koreans also see great potential in microcars for urban use.
As in the French example, Kia uses an all-electric powerplant. The idea is that renting such a car should be as attractive from a financial point of view as using public transport. For this, KIA is also considering designs similar to the Citroen Ami. Then the customer signs up, which gives him access to the cars parked in the city. Not only for several trips, but also, for example, for one car for a week or even for a month.
It is reported that when choosing the appearance of a small urban hit KIA takes into account the concept of Imagine. Car production is likely to be delayed until 2022.
