KIA is preparing a new budget crossover KIA SonetDecember 19, 2019
The new SUV will receive the status of a global model and will compete with Hyundai Venue.
The Korean company KIA is going to offer its customers another compact crossover. The automaker has already managed to file an application for registration of the name of the future “state employee” – Sonet. Such information was shared by the Indian edition of Indian Autoblog. It is expected that the market debut of the new crossover from KIA will take place in 2020. In the form of a concept, a small SUV will be presented in February, and India will be the first market for the new product. KIA Sonet production will be launched here. At the same time, models predict global status.
It will appear on the markets of the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, but in our country a new budget crossover should not be expected.
Its main rival will be the Hyundai Venue crossover. Externally, the new product will not look like a Venue: Sonet will get a more streamlined design, horizontal taillights instead of “square”, as well as the usual head optics, rather than a two-tier one. Inside the car will appear modern multimedia, visually combined with a dashboard. But the dimensions of the crossovers will be similar. Like the Indian Hyundai Venue, the length of the Sonet will not exceed four meters, which will allow the new product to rely on tax benefits.
The KIA Sonet motor line is likely to be shared with the same Venue. Recall that in India, the Hyundai crossover is equipped with a 1.2-liter 83-horsepower gasoline “aspirator” Kappa, a liter 120-horsepower “turbo engine” and a 1.4-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 90 hp. The “base” engine is combined with 5MKPP, the remaining two – with a six-speed manual transmission. A liter turbo engine can count on a “robot”. Venue relies only on a front-wheel drive system, so KIA Sonet is likely to follow suit. For the price, the new KIA will be slightly more expensive than the Hyundai Venue. Recall, the latter costs from 650,000 rupees
