Kia is not afraid of Dieselgate: in the US will sell diesel SorentoJanuary 19, 2018
Following Chevrolet and Jaguar, the company Kia decided to enter the segment of diesel crossovers of the American market, where a vacuum was created after Volkswagen’s drastic departure due to Dieselgate.
South Korean automotive manufacturer Kia decided to bring to the US market a diesel modification of the Sorento crossover. It is planned that sales of the new modification will begin in 2019. This is reported by the publication Car and Driver, citing Kia’s vice president of product planning Orta Hedrick.
In an interview taken during the international auto show in Detroit, Kia’s top manager confirmed that the company had contacted the EPA state regulator to get a certificate for the diesel Sorento. He noted that the government agency has raised stricter certification requirements for emissions than ever. And this slows down the overall process of modifying the US market.
Hedrick did not admit to which Sorento diesel engine will be sold in the United States. The obvious candidate is a 2.2-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 200 horsepower, with which the crossover is offered in Europe.
Recall that the German automobile concern Volkswagen because of the scandal with the level of emissions of harmful substances stopped deliveries to the US models with a three-liter turbodiesel.
