The first KIA Motors factory in India officially opened last week. It is located in the Anantapur region of Andhra Pradesh. The construction of the enterprise took two years, and 1.1 billion dollars were spent on its construction. It is known that the car factory was equipped with 450 robots at once. The KIA Seltos compact crossover, whose cost starts from 969,000 rupees, was the first on the conveyor of the new enterprise. Localization of production should strengthen the position of the Korean SUV in India. Recall that from August to November 2019, local motorists purchased 40,649 Seltos.
Next year, the lineup of the new enterprise will replenish the minivan and subcompact crossover. The KIA plant in Andhra Pradesh is expected to produce cars for export.
Indian “Celtos” is equipped with a one and a half liter gasoline engine with a return of 115 hp. or a 115-horsepower diesel 1.5 CRDi VGT. The petrol cross receives the IVT variator, and the diesel – 6-speed automatic transmission. There is also an SUV with a 140 hp Smartstream G1.4 T-GDi turbo engine. It is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed “robot”.
