Kia has unveiled the design of the new OptimaOctober 29, 2019
Kia has published the first teaser images of the K5 sedan for the home market. In other countries, including Russia, this car is sold under the name Optima. It is expected that the car will debut in the near future, and production of the model will begin in the first quarter of 2020.
Judging by the images, the new generation sedan will receive a proprietary Tiger Nose radiator grille, unusual Z-shaped LED headlights and lights connected by an LED strip. K5 also lacks traditional door handles. A digital dashboard and a large screen multimedia system will be installed in the passenger compartment. A minimum of analog buttons will be used inside, and a special washer will take the place of the gear lever.
Earlier, TheKoreanCarBlog reported that the next-generation Kia Optima will receive an eight-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches, which will replace the current seven-speed transmission. As for engines, the next Optima will receive a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine of the Theta III family, with which a robot with two wet clutches will work.
In addition, the previous 1.6-liter supercharged engine will remain in the engine range, which, however, will undergo modernization in connection with the tightening of requirements for the level of harmful emissions. It is because of stricter environmental standards that the automaker will refuse to use the current units of 2.0 and 2.4 liters.
