Kia has published specifications for a new generation of crossover SorentoMarch 18, 2020
The press service of the South Korean brand has published all the specifications for the new generation mid-size crossover Sorento. The machine will receive a hybrid and plug-in hybrid engine. The start of sales is scheduled for the end of this year.
After a lengthy advertising campaign, Kia introduced the new Sorento in February this year. Just a few days later, the South Korean manufacturer released the first technical details about its updated crossover, and now we have all the official information about the car.
First of all, the new Sorento is the first generation of the model to receive an electrified engine.
We are talking about the power plant, called Smartstream, which combines a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with direct injection with a turbocharger, a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery and a 44.2 kW electric motor.
The peak power of the hybrid unit is 227 horsepower (350 Nm). Power is supplied to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission, and an electric device installed on the gearbox allows “better to transfer all the engine power to the wheels in parallel with minimal energy loss”.
The hybrid performance of the mid-sized novelty will be available immediately as soon as the updated Sorento goes on sale, and at the end of this year Kia will also introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the car. On the “old continent” will also be available 2.2-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 199 hp. (440 Nm) that will work with the new eight-speed dual wet clutch automatic transmission. Final estimates of fuel consumption will be published closer to the date of sale of the car, which is scheduled for this year.
In some markets, the new Sorento will also be offered with a more powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 277 hp. (421 Nm), working with the same eight-speed “automatic” with double clutch.
The Sorento 2021 model year comes with a wide range of safety and driver assistance systems. Depending on the configuration and additional “packages”, they can include assistance in a collision, a blind zone monitor, a 360 circular camera, assistance in preventing a frontal collision, adaptive cruise control with a stop function and independent start of movement, and much more.
A new generation of crossover production will be launched at the Kia plant in West Point, Georgia (USA), as well as at the factory in Hwasung, South Korea.
