Kia has published all the technical details of the all-new SorentoFebruary 19, 2020
The press service of the South Korean brand shared all the details about the next-generation mid-size crossover Kia Sorento. The official presentation of the new items will be held as part of the Geneva Motor Show, which will be held in March this year.
After a demonstration of the all-new Sorento earlier this week, Kia released the specifications for the fourth generation of its mid-size crossover. The data appeared on the official website of the company in South Korea, where the model will be available for pre-order tomorrow.
Compared to its predecessor, the updated Sorento is 10 millimeters longer and now occupies 4,810 mm in length. The wheelbase is 2 815 mm, which is 35 mm more than before. The crossover has a height of 1,700 mm, including roof rails, and a width of 1,900 mm – an increase of 10 mm.
The fourth-generation Kia Sorento will be officially unveiled to the world on March 3 this year at the Geneva Motor Show.
The increase in size helps the crossover to offer a “more comfortable interior space” with a six-seater layout with a pair of independent seats in the second row. For added convenience, the third-row seats are adjustable depending on whether you need more space for the farthest passengers or additional space in the luggage compartment.
In terms of engines, the new Sorento will initially be offered on the Korean home market with a hybrid powerplant combining a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 177 horsepower (265 Nm) and a 59-horsepower electric motor (264 Nm). The total performance will be equal to 227 hp. (350 Nm). There is also a 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine that will work with the first “wet” dual-clutch automatic transmission with eight gears offered by Kia and Hyundai. The SmartStream D2.2 engine will develop a power of 199 hp. and torque of 440 Nm.
More powerful engines will also be available to customers, but so far nothing has been said about them. A plug-in hybrid engine will also be available, which can be ordered later this year.
As a result of using lighter materials, the next generation Sorento weighs 80 kilograms less, despite a small increase in size. The newly developed platform is designed to provide a smoother ride, as well as clearer control while improving safety with eight airbags – including an airbag for the driver’s knees.
