Kia decided to shut down its factory in ChinaJune 17, 2019
According to official data, due to a rather sharp decline in sales of South Korean brand cars all over the world, the latter’s management has been forced to close the production facilities of its factory in China.
Oh, this car market, it is unstable. For example, now, worldwide there is a decline in consumer activity in relation to cars of the South Korean brand Kia Motors. It is for this reason that the company’s management made a difficult decision to shut down its plant, which is located in China (Jiangsu Province). In total, in this country, the automaker has three plants.
In turn, the assembly lines will not be idle. According to the official representative of the South Korean brand, the company Kia has already passed them to the needs of the Chinese brand Dongfeng.
It is reported that before the end of this month, the assembly line of the Sportage compact crossover and the mid-size KX7 crossover (this is a heavily modified version of the Sorento Prime known to us) intended for China’s automotive market will continue. And starting from 2021, Dongfeng will produce its electric vehicles at these production facilities.
A spokesman for Kia Motors also said that there were about 1,000 workers who worked on the plant will be transferred to the second automaker plant, which is located in the city district of Yancheng (China). In total, the plant of the South Korean brand, which will stop production of Kia models in a month, has a production capacity of 140,000 cars per year.
