Ken Block showed what happen with the rally Ford after the accidentJuly 25, 2018
Ken Block showed what was left of his 1991 rally Ford Escort Cosworth after the accident at one of the stages of the championship of the American Rally Association (ARA) and promised to build a new car. He wrote about this in his Facebook.
Block and his navigator Alex Gelsomino got into an accident because of a problem with the gearbox. During the turn, it was too late to switch to a lower gear and Ford hit a large stone near the track. The car turned over several times and eventually caught fire. The pilots did not suffer, but the Escort could not be saved.
The new car for the 2018 season, Block presented in October last year. Ford Escort Cosworth is built in full compliance with the technical requirements of the rally “Group A” 90’s. It is based on the Sierra RS Cosworth chassis with a turbocharged engine, seven-speed sequential gearbox and four-wheel drive. For complete authenticity, even the interior of the Escort is made like the racing cars of that time.
In addition to the Ford Escort, Ken Block’s garage has a Ford RS200 Evo. The total circulation of the model, built for the homologation of the cars of the rally Group B, was 200 copies. 24 of them were later modified into more powerful versions of Evolution. Specially for the Block Ford was equipped with a 2.4-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 700 horsepower.
