Journalists captured a strange-looking prototype of a new Mercedes SL-classJune 14, 2019
The next SL class is expected to arrive somewhere in 2021, although we are not sure whether it will be the presentation date or the start date of sales. According to representatives of the company, the car will become more sporting.
On tests, a super-deformed version of the E-Class sedan is baked! We suspect that the back seat in this prototype luxury car is extremely cramped. In fact, this shortened test mule does not have a back seat, because we believe that this is the prototype for the next SL class in smart disguise.
This is not the first time we see such a car. At the end of April, an identical prototype was filmed on the camera, and we tend to say that this is the same car, given its bizarre nature.
If you look closely, there are a few minor differences – the fender trim and door handles on the driver’s side are slightly offset, and this car has a different license plate. We do not know how many test mules built Mercedes, but in the world there are at least two.
Why try to create a fake car instead of just releasing a real next-generation SL version for testing? Despite the fact that this is an extremely effective masking, it is possible that the body of the SL is not yet ready for testing. Meanwhile, we know that a smart two-seater sports car will have a new platform.
Details about the new SL-class are still small, but Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers promises that the car will be more sporting than its predecessor, while maintaining a high level of comfort. Engine variants should include 6- and 8-cylinder engines using soft hybrid technology, and a plug-in hybrid version of the model is also possible.
