According to the current global president of the American company, by 2022, the Jeep lineup will include 10 plug-in hybrid models, as well as several all-electric SUVs.

In the five-year strategic plan of the Italian-American concern Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the main focus is on the electrification of all brands that are part of the concern. These machines should receive plug-in hybrid powertrains. Jeep, which just belongs to FCA, will become one of the leading companies in this regard. It is reported that by 2022, the automaker’s lineup will consist of 10 plug-in hybrid models, the appearance of all-electric cars is also expected.

This should make Jeep “the most environmentally friendly brand that produces SUVs and crossovers,” according to its global president Christian Mönière. Speaking at a recent Jeep Drive event in New Zealand, he added that the Jeep plug-in hybrid models will be “best in class, they will be the most powerful and fastest Jeep cars to date.”

The first to appear is the plug-in hybrid version of the Wrangler SUV, which is scheduled to enter the market in 2020. It will be produced at the Northern assembly plant in Toledo (USA), where the FCA will invest at least $ 160 million.

The year 2021 will be very important for Jeep, as the American brand also plans to release plug-in hybrid versions of the new generation mid-size SUV Grand Cherokee, the new Wagoneer and the new Grand Wagoneer.

In general, by 2022 the five-year roadmap of the company implies the appearance of 10 plug-in hybrid models and four electric vehicles equipped with a battery. Around the same year, Jeep will also introduce autonomous technologies of the 3rd level, and diesel engines will gradually be “thrown out” of the brand’s line.
