Rumors about the appearance of the American Jeep Wrangler SUV with a diesel turbo engine under the hood began to appear in February 2013. Now, the press service of the brand announced that the current (fourth in a row) generation of the model (JL index), finally, can be bought with a “diesel engine”. It is reported that the start of sales is scheduled for the end of this year.
We are talking about a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, which can only be ordered in a more practical four-door body. The motor is designed for 260 hp and 600 Nm of torque. Paired with this diesel will work an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system.
For comparison, a full-sized Ram 1500 pickup with an EcoDiesel engine can boast the same power, but it has 52 Nm more torque.
The Jeep Wrangler is also offered with an in-line 270-liter turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 270 hp. (400 Nm), as well as the “atmospheric” 3.6-liter V6 with 285 hp. (353 Nm). It is reported that the fuel efficiency of the new engine should be significantly higher compared to gasoline counterparts, which consume up to 11.76 liters per 100 km of track in a combined cycle.
At the moment, there is no data on prices for the Jeep Wrangler SUV with a diesel V6, but judging by insider reports, the new product will cost $ 4,995 more expensive than gasoline versions.
