Jaguar Racing terminated the contract with PiquetMarch 29, 2019
Last weekend, the sixth stage of the fifth season of Formula E was held. Until the end of the championship, it was still almost half a year, but Jaguar Racing decided to terminate the contract with the first champion of the series Nelson Piquet Jr.. Already starting with the next race, which will be held in Rome on April 13, Alex Lynn will take his place.
The reason is the unsatisfactory results of the Brazilian this season – in six races he earned points only once, finishing tenth in the first stage of the season, he has only one point. His partner, Mitch Evans, was in the top ten in all races, and scored 36 points.
Nelson Piquet came to Jaguar Racing before the start of the previous, fourth season of Formula E. Before that, he competed in China Racing, which then turned into NextEV, and then NIO Racing. After winning the title in the first season, Nelson Piquet never went up to the podium in Formula E.
Nelson Piquet: “I enjoyed working with Jaguar Racing during this year and a half, but the results of the fifth season did not meet the expectations – neither mine nor the teams.”
James Barkley, Team Leader: “After Nelson joined us before the fourth season, we took a big step forward. He had good races, but recent results didn’t meet his or our expectations. We want to take this opportunity to thank Nelson for the hard work he has been doing for us, starting with the appearance on the team. He made a significant contribution to the development of our car.
Our goal this season is to fight for the podiums, and we decided that starting from the next stage in Rome, Alex would join the team. There is still half the season ahead, and we will do everything possible to achieve good results. I welcome Alex to Jaguar Racing and I look forward to working with him. ”
