Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy tested on the track: the dawn of a new eraAugust 15, 2018
Electric cars are increasingly entering our lives, but now they are more focused on the civil and corporate sectors. However, experts are already looking at electrified cars and as sports cars. Not an exception and Jaguar.
The new Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Championship has joined the FIA Formula E series, the first race will take place in December 2018. Cars will race through the streets of some of the most glamorous cities in the world – from New York to Paris. And electric cars will be able to provide a new level of silence in the race, as well as the absence of exhaust gases. According to the organizers, the race on electric cars is the future of motor sport.
Thus, the company Jaguar announced a new sports car with fully electric traction, and organized a mono series for it. This decision was made to maximize the popularization of its own electric crossover model, while the company has such an opportunity in the absence of competitors. Companies Audi, BMW and Mercedes are just preparing to release their own electric cars.
And experts noted that last year on the road there were three million cars with varying degrees of electrification. By 2030, the International Energy Agency predicts that their number will increase to 125 million.
Races in the I-Pace eTrophy will not be cheap. The car costs 260 000 dollars to completely buy it or it is necessary to give about 83 000 dollars at rent of a sports electric car for a season. But the prospects for a new monoserial are still vague, and experts are not going to report any forecasts.
The sports version of the crossover will receive a battery pack and two electric motors identical to the standard version. This means that the sports car can develop up to 395 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. However, with a smile on his face, the company’s top manager says: “We have changed the software.”
In fact, the car will not be much different from the road version. For the teams will be available adjustment of shock absorbers, stabilizers, rear spoiler and a few other minor parameters. Acceleration to “hundreds” will take only 4.5 seconds.
The new racing series can attract attention due to the use of electric cars. At least, at first it will be interesting for many to watch how 20 identical electric vehicles compete on city streets. Therefore, the series has the right to its own attempt.
