JAC S7 crossover that failed at home: decided to save sales with the help of designNovember 24, 2019
The flagship three-row SUV JAC has changed both outside and inside. But the equipment of the “Chinese”, according to preliminary data, is the same.
The JAC Refine S7 model launched in the home market in mid-2017, this is the largest and most expensive crossover of the Chinese company. In the premiere year in the Celestial Empire, 14 539 units were sold, but the result of 2018 was already 6787 cars, and in January-October 2019 only 1547 customers stopped the choice of the S7 (almost four times less compared to the same period last year). However, they are not going to refuse the flagship at the JAC – at the motor show that opened today in Guangzhou, a restyled SUV is presented. Such a cross received the name prefix Pro, which means that the pre-reform S7 can remain in service – a common thing for China.
So, the SUV got a fashionable two-tier head optics, and the radiator grille was made concave, like the recently debuted Jiayue A5 liftback, which is produced by JAC and Volkswagen. The stern was also redone, the cross no longer looks like previous Audi models – the new red taillights combine the new taillights. The hood of the S7 Pro has become more prominent, plus bumpers have been replaced.
According to a JAC press release, the length of the crossover is 4776 mm, which is 14 mm less than the pre-reform S7. The remaining dimensions have not changed: width – 1900 mm, height – 1760 mm, wheelbase – 2750 mm. The predecessor’s ground clearance is 204 mm. Most likely, the updated model has the same indicator.
Inside – a new front panel, got rid of round airflow deflectors and a small clock in the center. The touchscreen of the multimedia system is now larger, it rises above the panel, while the screen of the previous crossover was built into it. The transmission selector is also new, it was moved closer to the driver, and a compartment with a lid appeared on the right on the central tunnel, it also serves as cup holders. As before, the S7 will be available in five- or seven-seater versions.
According to preliminary data, the SUV will have one engine – this is the previous gasoline “turbo four” 1.5, issuing 174 hp. and 251 Nm. In the pre-reform S7, the motor is combined with a six-speed manual or a six-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches – they probably also switched to the updated S7. The old cross-country still has a 2.0 turbo engine rated at 190 hp. (300 Nm), it also works in tandem with 6MKP or 6DCT. Drive – front only.
S7 Pro will enter the Chinese market soon. JAC S3 and S5 SUVs are sold in our old body today, while in their homeland they have also been updated, more than once. So it is likely that they will bring to us the “pristine” S7.
