Italy noted a sharp decline in sales of new carsFebruary 14, 2019
Local experts believe that this is due to the decline in popularity of diesel cars. Previously, models with engines on heavy fuel mainly prevailed in sales.
Domestic analytics and statistics agency Avtostat presented the results of the Italian market. According to the results of January 2019, sales of new cars decreased by 7.6% compared to the results of January 2018. In this, 164,864 new cars were sold. According to experts and the Italian Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ANFIA) – the fall in demand is due to the decline in the popularity of diesel cars, as well as the expectant position of potential customers. It is also noted that since 2013, the share of diesel cars for the first time lost its leadership.
Fiat cars turned out to be a bestseller in the local market. At the moment, the local brand’s market share is 14.8% of the total sales in January. Their cars dispersed in the amount of 24,445 copies, which is noticeably less (by 29.2%) from the results of last year. The second in the ranking was Volkswagen, who managed to sell 14,865 cars and increase popularity by 10.6%.
On the third line is Peugeot, whose result was 11346 cars (+ 4.1%). Ford (11152 units, -11.2%) and Opel (9638 units, + 10.5%) close the top five.
