Is the Ram TRX named after the T-Rex dinosaur, the Raptor’s main enemy?August 19, 2020
In an interview with Mike Gillam, head of external design for TRX, we were able to find out why the “loaded” Ram 1500 TRX pickup got its name. Is it about the dinosaur confrontation?
The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX high-performance pickup truck debuted just a few days ago as the only viable alternative to the Ford F150 Raptor. It is more powerful, faster and more expensive than its main competitor, and you can buy it even if you live in Europe. Even the name of high-performance RAM challenges the blue oval super truck.
It turns out that this is just a coincidence. Yes, the TRX moniker can easily be associated with the Tyrannosaurus, which is the real enemy of another dinosaur – the Velociraptor (Raptor, in the name of the Ford truck).
But the truth is, RAM’s decision to name its truck that way? had nothing to do with this fact – at least initially.
Shortly before the official premiere of the Ram 1500 TRX, Automobile Magazine had the opportunity to speak with Mike Gillam, head of exterior design for the TRX project, and ask him questions about its design and overall concept. Apparently, the journalists believed that the name TRX is an abbreviation for T-Rex.
“Due to the tight schedule, we actually had very little time to find a decent name for the truck. We had over 200 different naming ideas. Many of them were really cool, interesting and exciting. And in the end, the legal department was unable to verify any of these names quickly enough, ”Gillam told the publication.
Yes, it’s that simple. RAM had to make a very quick – and legal – decision, and the name TRX was an obvious choice because the automaker already had the rights to use it. The team just didn’t want to spend too much time choosing a name for their high-performance truck.
Not so long ago, our publication wrote that the prices for the high-performance Ram TRX 2021 / pickup became known. Documentation has appeared in one of the forums, which talks about the prices for the high-performance Ram 1500 TRX pickup 2021 model year. It is reported that these securities were intended for dealers of the automaker.
